TDK announces the high-performance TronicsAXO315 miniature single-axis closed-loop MEMS accelerometer. Equipped with a 24-channel digital SPI interface in an SMD package, the accelerometer offers superior performance comparable to quartz sensors, far exceeding commercial MEMS sensors, and is easier to integrate, even under the harsh temperature and vibration conditions common in industrial, land, rail, and naval and construction applications

     TDK announces the high-performance TronicsAXO315 miniature single-axis closed-loop MEMS accelerometer. Equipped with a 24-channel digital SPI interface in an SMD package, the accelerometer offers superior performance comparable to quartz sensors, far exceeding commercial MEMS sensors, and is easier to integrate, even under the harsh temperature and vibration conditions common in industrial, land, rail, and naval and construction applications. It also ensures excellent one-year compound bias repeatability (1 mg) and compound scale factor repeatability (600 ppm). With many outstanding features, the new accelerometer helps to significantly reduce the size, weight and material costs of industrial motion control units, inertial measurement units (IMUs) and inertial navigation systems (INS).

 

     The AXO315's linear acceleration measurement range of ±14 g in a plane is accurate and reliable, making it easy to handle the most challenging operating conditions. It has a rated operating temperature range of -55°C to +105°C, and can achieve 1 mg of one-year compound bias repeatability under normal service conditions, as well as up to 4 g vibration resistance. Enhanced Allan variance performance, excellent 4 µg bias stability, a rate random walk of 0.006 m/s/√h, and an ultra-low noise density of 15μg/√Hz contribute to the high resolution and low error characteristics of the accelerometer.

 

     The new AXO315 accelerometer offers the same performance as the existing analog quartz accelerometers and mechanical inclinometers, but is smaller, lighter and more affordable, and is not subject to dual export controls in accordance with Annex 1 of Council Regulation (EC) No 428/2009. Compared to Tronics' previous generation of accelerometers, the AXO®215, the AXO315 delivers a performance level that exceeds comparable MEMS sensor components on the supermarket surface and provides an 80% improvement in temperature stability. The new accelerometer complements Tronics' current product line of GYPRO digital high-performance gyroscopes for high-performance inertial measurement units (IMUs) and inertial navigation systems (INS). Using a sealed SMD J lead ceramic package (12 x 12 x 5 mm) and weighing only 1.4g, it is extremely lightweight, reducing assembly costs on the printed circuit board and ensuring reliability, even in the event of sudden temperature changes.

 

     The performance and durability of the AXO315 ensure high accuracy and stability under harsh conditions, making it ideal for servo and dynamic inclinometers in industrial motion control units, inertial measurement units (IMUs), inertial navigation system (INS) assisted positioning for GNSS, And applications such as navigation for manned and unmanned ground vehicles and trains.

 

     The AXO315 acceleration sensor was manufactured, tested and calibrated at Tronics Microsystems' facility in Grenoble, France, and has now completed pilot production and customer sample testing. In addition, the sensor can be evaluated with an Arduino-based evaluation suite designed for developers to improve test functions such as output reading and recording, recalibration, and digital self-testing.
