TDK has further expanded the Micronas 3D HAL position sensor family with the new HAL 3930-4100 and HAR 3930-4100* for automotive and industrial applications. Both sensors feature accurate position detection and robust compensation for stray fields, and offer a flexible digital output interface for PWM or SENT.

Both sensors feature accurate position detection and robust compensation for stray fields, and offer a flexible digital output interface for PWM or SENT. According to ISO 26262, single-chip products have been defined as SEooC (Independent Safety Unit) ASIL C class and can be integrated into automotive safety-related systems up to ASIL D class. The sensor is suitable for steering Angle position detection, transmission position detection, shift position detection, accelerator and brake pedal position detection and other application scenarios.

 

     Both sensors offer a user-configurable PWM or SENT output interface, which improves adaptability. In addition, the sensor incorporates a switching output with a multifunctional high-side/low-side switching configuration. Switching signals are derived from calculated position data, or other sources along the device's signal path, such as temperature or magnetic field amplitude. As ASIL Class C devices, both HAL 3930-4100 and HAR 3930-4100 are self-tested at startup and during normal operation to improve their reliability. These tests are designed to prevent the sensor from giving false readings or reporting errors through the SENT interface or through the PWM interface according to the SENT standard.

 

     The HAR 3930-4100 is a dual-chip version of the HAL 3930-4100 that provides full redundancy. The sensor is equipped with two separate chips stacked on top of each other, but mechanically and electrically separate. When the two chips measure nearly the same magnetic field, they ensure that the output signal is synchronized. This redundant design, located in a single package, achieves the dual goals of reducing system costs and improving overall reliability. Smaller PCBS and fewer solder joints further enhance the reliability of the system. The HAR 3930-4100 comes in a compact SSOP16 package, while the monolithic device comes in a SOIC8 package.

 

     HAL 3930-4100 and HAR 3930-4100 provide a wide range of measurement capabilities such as 360° Angle measurement, linear motion tracking, and 3D position data for magnets. Such 3D position information can be transmitted via SENT or two PWM outputs. In addition, both sensors have modular capabilities and are customized for chassis position sensor application scenarios. This feature helps divide the 360° measurement range into smaller, more precise segments such as 90°, 120°, and 180°.

 

     In addition, the on-chip signal processing function calculates two angles from the magnetic field component and converts them into a digital output signal. This flexibility allows customers to tune basic parameters such as gain, offset, and reference position through non-volatile memory programming, ensuring seamless alignment with specific magnetic circuit requirements.
