TDK introduces the new VLS5030EX-D inductor

     TDK Corporation has introduced a new VLS5030EX-D inductor (5.3 x 5.0 x 3.0 mm (L x W x H)) as part of the VLS-EX-D series of wound ferrite power inductors for automotive power circuits. These small components have excellent DC stacking characteristics and guarantee performance at operating temperatures up to 150℃. The inductors are suitable for headlights, airbags, electric power steering systems (EPS), advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), engine control units (ECUs), and a variety of other power circuit applications.

     Recently, there has been an increase in the number of ECUs installed under the hood for the electrification of various vehicle control functions, as well as applications such as infotainment and autonomous driving. This small component supports the implementation of coaxial line transmission power (PoC) and has excellent DC stacking characteristics for data transmission and power supply, meeting requirements such as advanced Driver assistance systems (ADAS) using low-voltage differential signal (LVDS) transmission. In addition, as the processing power of integrated circuits increases, higher currents are required, and the VLS-EX-D series helps meet these specifications.

     The new VLS-EX-D series inductors have a higher current rating than TDK's standard VLS-EX-H series. These improvements are due to the use of TDK's innovative metallic magnetic materials for magnetic shielding. Specifically, the VLS5030EX-D inductor has an Isat rating of 3.3 A at 4.7 μH, an increase of approximately 6 percent compared to a standard component of the same size of 5.3 x 5.0 x 3.0 mm (L x W x H). In addition, high reliability is achieved when used in reflux and high-temperature environments thanks to the welding method that connects the wound wire to the external electrode.
