TDK introduces the next generation of HVC series high voltage contactors

     TDK has recently introduced the HVC27 (B88269X) series of high voltage contactors. As a new generation of components, they can safely and reliably break continuous DC currents of 300A to 500A and DC operating voltages up to 1000V in lithium-ion batteries in 20 ms or less, depending on the model.

     The new series of components inherits the advantages of TDK's previous HVC models, typically using a gas-filled sealed ceramic arc chamber, and the new design is optional with a Hall effect sensor as an auxiliary contact to detect the switching status of the main contact. The HVC27 is designed to be non-polar and requires only a single component for battery charging and discharging applications, as well as powering the motor drive system and regenerative braking (energy recovery).

     The UL certified HVC27 series components are available in three mechanical versions: the upright mount version (C1) measures 95 x 44 x 90 mm3 (L x W x H); The horizontal mount version (C5) measures 90 x 90 x 46 mm, and there is a replacement model (NIL) for the HVC25 (HVC200, 300 and 500). High current contactors are available in single or double coil options with operating voltages of 12 V or 24 V respectively. The single-coil version has a continuous operating power consumption of 6W, while the two-coil version is only 4W. The cut-off life for the (450V/300A) resistive load is 1500 times for the single-coil version and 2000 times for the double-coil version. At 750 V/300 A, the service life is 150 and 1000 times respectively.

     The high voltage contactors have the ability to carry high currents continuously and are suitable for a variety of applications, such as the rapid breaking of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles, for DC charging piles and battery energy storage systems such as photovoltaic energy storage and UPS systems.
