
TDK has introduced the TFM252012ALVA thin-film metal power inductor, which can be directly connected to a 12 V automotive battery while maintaining a small size. The newly developed inductor has A rated current of 1.6 A and an inductance of 4.7 μH, which can withstand severe temperature environments and operate in the temperature range of -55 °C to +150 °C (including temperature rise due to spontaneous heat), so it is particularly suitable for automotive power circuits. Thanks to the magnetic metal core, the new TFM252012ALVA inductor has a size of 2.5 mm × 2.0 mm and a height of 1.2 mm.
TDK will continue to work on miniaturization of automotive power circuit modules by expanding its product lineup with different sizes and inductance values, thus offering inductors for a wide range of designs and applications. To date, there are no thin-film metal inductors on the market that can be used in connection with a 12 V automotive battery and occupy less than 9mm2. The newly developed TFM252012ALVA series uses TDK's unique material technology and structural design to achieve a rated voltage of 40 V and a space of less than 9 mm2, so it can be used in power circuits directly connected to 12 V automotive batteries.
Nowadays, more and more electronic control units are installed in cars, which provide power for various control functions and realize other functions such as in-car information communication and automatic driving. As the number of automotive ECUs required to implement ADAS** increases, so does the number of inductors for the power circuits used in these units. However, due to the increasing number of components but limited installation space, there is an increasing demand for small electronic components with high performance and high reliability. TDK meets the needs of such markets with products such as the new TFM2520ALVA series.
