TDK introduces ultra-small TVS diodes with high ESD protection

     TDK Corporation further expands its portfolio of bidirectional overvoltage protection components for I/O interfaces with the introduction of ultra-small, high-power TVS (Transient suppression) diodes for ESD protection applications. The new components are available in chip-scale packages of only 400 x 200µm²(CSP01005) or 600 x 300µm²(CSP0201), and the package height is also extremely low at 100µm.

     The new TVS diode is designed to operate at 5V and respond at 6.8V. Under different peak pulse current conditions, the terminal voltage of the two new components is also different: when the peak pulse current is 8 A, the clamp voltage is 7.2 V; When the peak pulse current is 16 A, the termination voltage is 8 V. Different types of new components can provide different parasitic capacitors, in which the SD0201SL-GP101 parasitic capacitance is 12 pF, and the SD01005SL-GP101 parasitic capacitance is 5 pF. In addition, the new component has other features and advantages, such as short response time and low leakage current (only 2 nA@3.3 V).

     The new protection element is designed to meet the IEC 61000-4-2 standard, and its ESD contact discharge voltage can reach 24 kV, which is significantly ahead of the standard requirements. Despite their small size, they have A high surge current load capacity of up to 8 A, meeting IEC 61000-4-5 (8/20µs) standards.

     With its ultra-small size, the new components are not only widely used in various applications for the Internet of Things (IoT), smart home or Industry 4.0, but are also particularly suitable for products such as wearables, smartphones, laptops, tablets, smartwatches and hearing AIDS.
