TDK Group offers a new compact package for CeraCharge, the world's first rechargeable solid-state SMD battery, with dimensions only EIA 1812 (4.4 x 3.0 x 1.1 mm3). The package (Order number: B73180A0101M199) consists of 10 bubble-wrapped CeraCharge batteries, all in vacuum-sealed plastic bags. These products are manufactured using conventional series production processes and are suitable for testing, prototyping and installation on pilot production lines.

     CeraCharge can charge and discharge more than 1000 times, has a capacity of 100 µAh at a nominal voltage of 1.5 V, and can quickly absorb currents in the range of a few milliamps. With the help of SMD technology, it is very simple to complete the battery installation and handling during the reflow process, thus reducing the production cost of the equipment. CeraCharge's rated operating temperature range is -20 °C to -+80 °C.

 

     Unlike most common technologies, CeraCharge is a solid-state rechargeable battery with no liquid electrolyte. Similar to ceramic capacitors, CeraCharge is also based on multi-layer technology, integrating a relatively high energy density in a very compact space, while improving the safety of the manufacturing process of multi-layer structural components. Using solid ceramic as an electrolyte also eliminates the risk of fire, explosion, or electrolyte leakage.

 

     To increase capacity and voltage, a single CeraCharge core can be connected in series and parallel as required, enabling an expanded range of applications, especially in iot applications such as real-time clocks, Bluetooth beacons, wearables or energy harvesting devices.
