TDK piezoelectric stack actuator product portfolio adds new edge

     TDK Corporation introduces two new copper internal electrode piezoelectric actuators made of RoHS compliant lead zirconate titanate (PZT) material - COM30S5 and COM45S5. Using TDK's patented copper-based HAS (High Effective Stacking) technology, the new components are delivered as passive components in a caseless package, achieving good dynamic range, high force/volume ratio and nanoscale accuracy. Piezoelectric actuators using TDK's HAS technology offer better performance, better humidity stability and longer service life than other technologies.

     The two new components cover the voltage range from -10 to +180 V, the rated displacement is reached at +160 V, the allowable surface temperature range is -40 to +160°C, the height is 30 mm and 45 mm respectively, and the cross-sectional dimensions are 5.2 mm x 5.2 mm. And displacement of 55 µm (COM30S5) and 83 µm (COM45S5) can be achieved under preload conditions of 160 V and 730 N.

     In addition, TDK plans to launch three more actuators in 2023 to meet a wider range of application requirements. At present, these actuators are only available as a small number of prototype samples and have not yet been mass-produced, including the COM10S5 with a height of 10 mm and a displacement of 16 µm; COM27S3 (with guide line) with height of 27 mm and displacement of 47 µm; The COM30S7 has a height of 30 mm, a cross section of 7 mm x 7 mm, a displacement of 55 µm, and a thrust of up to 2600 N.

     TDK's well-respected piezoelectric actuators are suitable for a wide range of applications, including nanoscale positioning technology, high-precision valve control of liquids and gases in process engineering, and high-end solutions such as semiconductor manufacturing.
