TDK's new ultra-thin printing coil will completely change wireless charging

TDK introduced a thin printed coil to support wireless charging of next-generation mobile devices. WCT38466-N0E0SST101 did not use traditional photolithographic exposure/etching technology for product development, but combined TDK's subversive process technology with the electroplating technology using organic compound polypyrrole nano dispersion developed by Achilles Co., Ltd.

     TDK has launched a thin printed coil to support wireless charging for the next generation of mobile devices. The WCT38466-N0E0SST101 product was developed without traditional lithographic exposure/etching techniques, but instead combined TDK's disruptive process technology with electroplating using organic compound polypyrrole nanodispersions developed by Ajax. While wireless charging coils are usually produced using the wire winding method, this new method allows the charging coils to be printed on a thin film using a thick copper pattern.

 

     Coupled with the application of TDK's proprietary magnetic material, the coil thickness is reduced to 0.76 mm, about one-fifth the thickness of a conventional 3.8mm diameter coil. In addition, the use of TDK's original optimal coil shape pattern also means that the new coil covers a larger charging area, thus bringing greater convenience to users.

 

     Wireless transmission of power to mobile devices such as smart phones has considerable appeal. The demand for wireless charging has emerged in the home, office, retail and automotive environments. The diameter of TDK coil is extremely thin, which conforms to the Qi standard widely adopted by the Wireless Charging Alliance, and will open up new opportunities for wireless charging deployment. In addition, in the past, the wireless charging system needed to integrate three coils, but now only one coil is needed, thus realizing the miniaturization of the system.
