TDK uses Sensirion's latest humidity and temperature sensors in SmartBug

     TDK's SmartBug™ (MD-42688-P) is a multi-sensor wireless module that utilizes TDK MEMS sensors and algorithms to meet a wide range of IoT applications. The module combines six sensors, a powerful wireless (BLE) MCU, seven algorithm-driven functions and a rechargeable battery in a small ladybug enclosure. It also comes with an add-on board option that includes a Wi-Fi module, an SD card slot, and TDK's ultrasonic sensor.

     The integrated SHTC3 is a digital humidity and temperature sensor optimized for battery-powered applications and high-volume consumer electronics. The sensor is designed to overcome conventional limitations in size and power ratio to meet the requirements of the consumer electronics market and products such as TDK SmartBug. Sensirion's CMOSens® technology delivers complete sensor systems on a single chip. The compact 2 x 2 x 0.75mm3 DFN package can be used in even the smallest Spaces. The sensor has a humidity measurement range of 0% to 100% RH and a temperature measurement range of -40°C to 125°C, with typical accuracy of ± 2% RH and ±0.2°C. With a supply voltage range of 1.62V to 3.6V and an energy budget of less than 1μJ per measurement, the SHTC3 is ideal for battery-powered mobile or wireless applications.

     TDK's SmartBug solution provides fast and easy access to intelligent and reliable sensor data without the need for programming, welding or other modifications. This provides detailed insights into real-world application signatures, environmental variations, and multi-sensor/algorithmic behavior. It includes the ICM-42688-P 6-axis IMU, ICP-10101 pressure sensor, Sensirion's humidity and temperature sensor, magnetic sensor, and TDK's optional CH-101 ultrasonic sensor, resulting in an all-in-one sensor solution. The unique feature of this module is the provision of intelligent sensor data through IoT sensor algorithms with custom tuning parameters.

     The algorithm includes door open/close detection, 6-axis and 9-axis sensor fusion, asset monitoring, HVAC filter monitoring, pedometer, activity classification, gesture and aerial mouse monitoring. SmartBug data and output can be easily visualized, streamed and recorded in the Windows 10 application - SmartBug. The app is available for free download from the Microsoft Store. The app offers great flexibility to get data from BLE, Wi-Fi or USB depending on usage. In addition, the SD card logging feature allows data to be recorded automatically (up to 32 GB) without the need for any Windows 10 applications.
