TE introduces EB16 extender fiber pin and slot end connectors in new single mode and multi-mode models

     TE Connectivity, a global leader in the connectivity and sensor industry, introduces the EB16 extender fiber pin and slot end connectors in new single-mode and multi-mode models. Both models are based on an updated design with spring-free splice and non-crimped cable retention.

     Based on TE's PRO BEAM expanded beam connector technology, the EB16 end connector expands and collimates the light signal entering the beam far beyond its original size, simplifying optical calibration, reducing contamination sensitivity and ensuring performance is unaffected by temperature changes. Separating optical elements through pores and eliminating physical contact helps improve performance and mitigate damage caused by harsh conditions such as severe vibration and shock. This plug-in end joint has a meshing length twice as deep as the standard MIL-PRF-29504/4 and /5 for improved stability and performance in vibrational environments.

     As with previous versions, the new EB16 optical single-mode and multi-mode pin and slot connectors are an easy replacement for the MIL-PRF-29504/4 and /5 physical contact connectors used in many hardened circular connector systems. The EB16 end connector fits the standard D38999 No. 16 cavity and complies with MIL-DTL-38999 Series I and Series III connectors and MIL-STD-1760 connector specifications and is designed for versatility.

     The characteristics of these end joints can compensate for the deviation problems inherent in connector plugging. For D38999 connectors 25-37 with fully loaded ends, this spring-free end joint reduces the total axial connector insertion force by approximately 150 lbf. The return loss (RL) of multi-mode products is now comparable to that of single-mode designs. In addition, this end joint eliminates the need for crimping holes and crimping tools, reducing overall terminating time and manpower requirements.
