TRINAMIC launches fully optimized servo controller

     TRINAMIC Motion Control Ltd. has announced the availability of the fully optimized TMC4671-LA. After introducing the world's first fully integrated servo controller IC with field-oriented control for BLDC/PMSM and two-phase stepper motors, as well as DC motors and voice coils, Trinamic continues to work on chips. Integrated chips are carefully evaluated and improved based on the experience of market leaders such as e-mobility, medical devices, laboratory automation, robotics, factory automation, and pump and blower designers.

     To meet market demands, the TMC4671-LA has all the necessary control loops embedded in a robust and reliable state machine. By offloading real-time mission-critical functions from the processor and software and implementing all control functions in hardware, a key advantage of the TMC4671 is that it can handle all control functions itself.

     Trinamic is uniquely positioned to collaborate with some of the world's biggest innovators. Their biggest challenge gave us the idea to build the TMC4671 in the first place, and hours of field testing and careful evaluation allowed us to discover how to improve the chip. With the improved dedicated servo controller IC, engineers can now easily overcome their biggest challenges and build servo drives in one day, as all control functions have been integrated into this smart chip. While providing first-class performance, operating costs are significantly reduced.

     Developing a dynamic servo controller takes only a few lines of code because all time-critical calculations are integrated into the hardware. This not only eases the burden on processors to handle real-time critical tasks, but also optimizes the design cycle and shortens time to market. Featuring high performance, high efficiency and dynamics, the TMC4671-LA offers a complete package with integrated ADC, position sensor interface and position interpolator.

     In addition to the improved servo control chip, Trinamic also introduced the open source TMC4671 + TMC6100-BOB. The development board has a dedicated TMC4671-LA servo controller IC and a general purpose high voltage gate driver TMC6100. Designed for rapid prototyping of applications, it allows engineers to immediately check the motor performance of Trinamic chips as they tune the application.

     The TMC4671-LA is available for purchase from May through Trinamic's sales partners. The TMC4671-EVAL is fully integrated into the Trinamic development environment and can be used in combination with the 2A / 24V power stage, the 10A / 70V power stage or the TMC6100-EVAL to complete a comprehensive evaluation of a fully functional servo controller IC. The TMC4671-BOB and TMC4671 +TMC6100-BOB will also be available simultaneously for accelerated process design.
