
TT Electronics has announced the launch of High Energy Double Sided Patch (HDSC) resistors, the latest in a family of pulsed resistance patch resistors. To improve pulse performance, the HDSC Patch resistor is the only untrimmed double-sided patch resistor on the market and is ideal for industrial and medical applications (For example:power supply, circuit breaker and medical monitor input protection).
"The improved performance of HDSC resistors in terms of surge voltage and pulse power enables them to provide unique design values. These are real advantages for circuit designers who need to enhance surge protection in compact SMD designs." Says Stephen Oxley, senior resistor engineer, TT Electronics Applications & Marketing. "Due to the improved surge tolerance of HDSC, the increased reliability of HDSC in applications where power surges may occur and the reduction of field failures are key factors in connected health and uninterrupted Industry 4.0 applications."
HDSC resistors are ideal for replacing large patch resistors or multilayer patch resistors used to achieve pulse resistance. Designers can use this product to reduce design size and weight, while improving the surge protection performance of the design to ensure that the design meets electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations and product reliability requirements. For a given rating, the product takes up less space and saves printed circuit board space, giving designers the advantage of designing compact SMD circuits for power conversion, motion control and protection applications.
Available in four sizes from 0805 to 2512, TT's HDSC resistors can withstand peak voltages up to 6.5kV at a surge of 1.2/50µs and up to 6kW at a pulse of 0.1 ms. This product is suitable for protection and discharge applications in compact power supplies and power control circuits that require a resistance tolerance of 5%.
