Texas Instruments ADS1285 32-bit low power ADC

     Texas Instruments ADS1285 32-bit low power analog-to-digital converter (ADC) features a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) and a finite impulse response (FIR) filter. The ADC is designed to meet the stringent requirements of low noise precision digitization and longer battery life of seismic monitoring equipment. Low noise PGA allows direct connection of seismometers and transformer coupled hydrophones without the need for an external amplifier.

     The ADC consists of a high resolution Delta-sigma modulator and an FIR filter with a programmable phase response. A high-pass filter removes DC and low frequency components from the signal. The clock frequency error is compensated by a sampling rate converter with a resolution of 7ppb.

     Dynamic range and power consumption can be optimized by selecting a power mode. PGA bypass operation further reduces power consumption. The Texas Instruments ADS1285 ADC is available in a compact 5mm x 5mm VQFN package and is rated to operate in the ambient temperature range -- 40°C to +85°C.
