Texas Instruments bq25172 Nickel-Metal Hydride Stand-alone Linear Charger is an integrated 800mA linear charger for 1 to 6 nickel-metal hydride batteries. These devices are targeted for industrial and medical applications. There is only one power output to charge the battery.

The system load can be in parallel with the battery. This option can only be implemented if the average system load does not prevent the battery from fully charging within the duration of the safe timer. When the system load is in parallel with the battery, the charging current is shared between the system and the battery.

The Texas Instruments bq25172 charger features fully integrated power levels and charge current sensing. The charger has high precision current, charging status display and a charging terminal based on timer. The series battery count, charge current, and charge timer can be programmed with external resistors. Intermittent charging allows NIMH batteries to automatically charge when the voltage drops below the charging threshold to shorten the timer duration
