Texas Instruments DRV8428 stepper motor driver

     Texas Instruments DRV8428 stepper motor driver is for industrial and consumer applications. The device is fully integrated, with two n-channel power MOSFET h-bridge drivers, a micro step indicator and an integrated current sensor. DRV8428 can drive 1A full size output current (depending on PCB design).

     Texas Instruments DRV8428 adopts an internal current detection architecture, eliminating the need for two external power detection resistors, saving PCB area and system cost. The device adopts an internal PWM current regulation scheme, which can be selected between intelligent tuning and mixed attenuation options. The intelligent adjustment automatically adjusts the optimal current adjustment, compensates the influence of motor changes and aging, and reduces the noise from the motor.

     A simple STEP/DIR interface allows the external controller to manage the direction and STEP rate of the stepping motor. The device can be configured with different stepping modes, from full step to 1/256 micro step. The use of dedicated nSLEEP pins provides a low-power sleep mode for extremely low standby quiescent standby current. It has power supply undervoltage, overcurrent, short circuit and over temperature protection functions. The fault condition is indicated by the EN/nFAULT pin.
