Developers can now deliver sharp multi-format video up to 1080p H.264, 30fps(encoded and closed-loop decoding) in their digital video designs without worrying about video format support, limited network bandwidth, limited system storage capacity, or cost, Using Texas Instruments' (TI) new TMS320DM368 DaVinci video processor.
The DM368 is capable of 1080p 30fps H.264 HD video processing and is fully pin compatible with the DM365 processor, using the same ARM926EJ-S core and operating at 432 MHz. The ARM9-based DM368 device supports manufacturing standard H.264BP/MP/HP, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MJPEG, and VC1/WMV9 codecs, giving customers the flexibility to select the right video codecs for their applications.
These codecs run on separate coprocessors (HDVICP and MJCP) that unload all of the compression requirements of the main ARM core. This allows developers to get the best ARM performance for their applications, including their multi-channel, multi-stream, and multi-format requirements. Video surveillance designers have implemented higher compression efficiency to provide more storage space without straining network bandwidth. Developers of media playback and camera-driven applications such as video doorbells, digital signage, digital video recorders, portable media players, and more can take advantage of the full suite of codecs supported by DM368, taking advantage of low power consumption and ensuring interoperability and product scalability.
In addition to multi-format HD video, the DM368 also has a suite of peripherals that allow developers to save on system cost and complexity by seamlessly interfacing with most of the additional external devices required for video applications. The image sensor interface is flexible enough to support CCD, CMOS and various other interfaces such as BT.656, BT1120.
The DM368 also offers a high level of integrated HD display support, including three built-in 10-bit HD analog video digital-to-analog converters (dac), DDR2/mDDR, Ethernet MAC, USB 2.0, integrated audio, host port Interface (HPI), analog to digital converters and much more, Saves developers overall system costs, as well as space on the board, allowing for thinner, sleeker designs.
