     Texas Instruments announced the TMP411, a remote junction temperature sensor in the +/-1 ° C accuracy range, integrated with local temperature sensors for monitoring thermal diodes in cpus, microprocessors, graphics processing units and FPgas. The device is unique in that it not only provides programmable series resistance cancellation and diode non-ideal correction, but also simplifies and eliminates the independent processor resistance calibration process common in remote diode monitoring, saving time.

 

     The TMP411 provides thermal system management for a wide variety of applications, such as industrial controllers, servers, desktops, laptops, and medical devices. Other applications include local telecommunications equipment, LCD/DLP/LCOS projectors, storage domain networks, and processor /FPGA temperature monitoring.

 

     The TMP411 features programmable over - and under-temperature thresholds and an alarm pin that provides immediate response to potentially hazardous thermal environments. As a result, it prevents system damage, ensures continuous system operation with minimal interference, and its programmable nonideality factor correction can be used for diode nonideality factors associated with any processor.

 

     The TMP411 not only works on a two-wire interface compatible with the standard I2C/SMBus, but also provides 9 to 12-bit resolution over a temperature range of -40 ° C to 125 ° C, with remote temperature ranges up to 150 ° C. To reduce power consumption, the TMP411 can also be placed in sleep mode, reducing current consumption to 10uA.
