The BQ79616-Q1 addresses both of these challenges, helping engineers achieve battery safety goals and increasing vehicle range per charge in wired and wireless battery management systems.
The BQ79616-Q1 battery monitor and weighing device is the industry's first patented fail-wake feature. When used in conjunction with the BQ79600-Q1 SPI/UART communication interface, it completely shuts down the system when the vehicle is stopped or turned off. This helps design engineers save battery power, improve battery balance, and meet safety requirements.
Use high-precision battery monitors and weighers to increase mileage even more
The BQ79616-Q1 is the first product in TI's new family of battery monitors and weighing devices that support high-precision monitoring of batteries containing a variety of chemicals, including lithium phosphate (LiFePO4). This allows automakers to have a more precise grasp of battery charging status and health, which reduces costs. The BQ79616-Q1's integrated digital low-pass filter and high-precision analog-to-digital converter optimize signal measurement accuracy, enabling battery voltage measurement with an error of less than 2 mV.
Simplify ASIL D certification with TI's fastest diagnostic program
TI's new monitors and scales meet ISO 26262 component-level requirements and support ASIL D compliant voltage measurement, temperature measurement and communication, resulting in significant bill of materials (BOM) and software overhead savings. The BQ79616-Q1 has TI's fastest battery fault diagnosis time (100ms in a 400V system) for increased system reliability and battery safety.
Improve system reliability with robust communications and advanced thermal management
The BQ79616-Q1 has strong electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and can withstand the harsh, noisy environments faced by hybrid and electric vehicles without compromising the reliability of Daisy chain communication. In addition, the device's pin rating allows it to withstand high-voltage transients and hot-swap operations, and automatic battery balancing is integrated to simplify thermal management.
Adjust battery design to reduce cost and time to market
TI's new family of monitors and weighing devices offers multiple channel options in the same package, offering pin-to-pin compatibility and 100% reuse of existing software. In addition, the BQ79616-Q1 integrates a busbar measurement function, allowing engineers to maximize channel utilization in a combination of battery modules of various sizes. By combining the BQ79616-Q1 with the BQ79600-Q1, engineers can design a battery management system with only one communication interface in a closed-loop configuration to further reduce the number of components.
