Texas Instruments offers integrated current sensing with its DRV8886 2-step motor driver

     Texas Instruments DRV8886 is a stepper motor driver for industrial and consumer terminal device applications. The device fully integrates two n-channel power MOSFET H-bridge drivers, microstep divider, and integrated current sensing. The DRV8886 is capable of driving up to 2 A full-scale or 1.4 A rms output currents (24 V and T(A) = 25°C, depending on the PCB design).

     DRV8886 uses an internal current detection architecture that eliminates the need for two external power detection resistors, saving PCB area and system cost. The DRV8886 uses an internal fixed turn-off time PWM current adjustment scheme adjustable between slow and mixed attenuation options.

     A simple step /DIR interface allows an external controller to manage the direction and step rate of the stepper motor. The device can be configured in asynchronous advance mode from full step to 1/16 microstep. Use dedicated nSLEEP pins to provide low-power sleep mode for very low standby sleep current.

     Device protection features provide power undervoltage, charging pump failure, overcurrent, short circuit and overheating. The fault condition is indicated by the nFAULT pin
