The ON Low Power Asset Label delivers unmatched 5 year battery life for industrial asset management

     Onsemi, which is ahead of intelligent power supply and intelligent perception technology, released a new system solution to overcome the main challenges related to the development of asset tracking tags. Battery life has always been a major obstacle to the use of asset tags, especially in the industrial sector where reducing maintenance and related costs is the primary concern. RSL10 Asset Tag provides an unprecedented and industry-leading battery life of up to five years. So far, the normal battery life of asset tracking labels or beacons is only one year or several months.

     This revolutionary battery life is achieved through the low power consumption and firmware level improvement of the RSL10 Bluetooth 5 radio SoC. In addition to RSL10, the platform also has a three-axis accelerometer and environmental sensors (motion, pressure and temperature), which provide valuable data and insight about the asset's environment, condition and direction. Each sensor is powered by a dedicated MOSFET load switch and controlled by RSL10. This design can control the power consumption of the whole system based on each sensor, thus reducing the total power consumption. Other functions of the platform include a low-cost antenna and matching circuit optimized for Bluetooth low-power transmission, a multi-purpose dome switch and a 10 pin debugger that can be removed according to application needs.

     RSL10 has recently been selected as an indoor locator beacon for tracking and monitoring hospital equipment, providing healthcare providers with actionable insights. The beacon was developed by Blyott, one of the iot solution providers, and Tatwah, one of the market leaders in Bluetooth low power tags and beacons. Blyott chose Tatwah's RSL10-based beacons because of their compact size, ultra-low power consumption, and the IP67 tag's ability to meet stringent disinfection requirements.

In the CMSIS-Pack that accompanies the evaluation board, Anson has developed a custom application that demonstrates the ultra-low power features and capabilities of the platform in asset tracking use cases.
