
ROHM announced that Embedded Artists, a producer of embedded SoM and boards for industrial systems and development platforms, will use ROHM's highly integrated PMIC and NXP's i.MX 8M Nano processors on its iMX8M Nano uCOM boards. Powerful and cost-effective solutions for industrial applications. ROHM's BD71847AMWV is a PMIC system for the i.MX 8M Nano and 8M Mini.
Developed jointly by Embedded Artists, NXP and ROHM, the uCOM board measures just 45mm x 42mm and features an i.MX 8M Nano processor and quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 and Cortex-M7. It operates at frequencies up to 1.5GHz / 750MHz. Its low power consumption makes it suitable for long duty cycle, battery-operated remote applications. The 13,800 DMIPS high performance board also includes: 1 GB DDR4 2400 MT/s; 16-bit data bus; 8 GB eMMC onboard flash memory; MIPI-DSI graphic output and MIPI-CSI camera input; USB2.0, Gigabit Ethernet and other interfaces; And an optional Murata 1MW Wi-Fi/BT module that supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and BT/BLE 5.0.
David Doan, Senior Product Manager at ROHM, explains: "Our PMIC is designed to support the use of NXP's i.MX 8M Mini and Nano in a wide range of consumer and industrial products in their intended applications. Its flexibility, including software programmability and OTP configurability is a key feature, but it is first and foremost a low-cost, all-in-one power solution for SOCs, memory and general-purpose system peripherals."
Doan continues, "Hysteresis synchronization topology can provide good transient response and efficiency even under light loads. PMIC's pin allocation is specifically optimized for SoC and is designed to simplify PCB layout; Remote sensing is not required. We want to reassure our customers that this PMIC is validated by NXP, has been used on their EVK, and is fully supported in the i.MX 8M Mini and Nano BSP."
In addition to the power rail, DVFS support and programmable sequencer, the BD71847AMWV integrates a programmable power button, 32 kHz crystal driver and buffered output clock, extensive fault detection and protection circuitry. These features and factors help reduce development time, reduce risk, and simplify application design.
