The TE EB1 optical terminal conforms to Series I and III of MIL-DTL-38999

     TE Connectivity (TE) has developed a reinforced extended beam optical terminal consisting of single mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) EB16. The EB16 terminal is a size 16 optical contact conforming to MIL-DTL-38999 Series I and Series III and MIL-STD-1760 lapped-release size 16 AWG cavity.

     These terminals are an alternative to MIL-PRF-29504/4 and /5 physical contact terminals, used in many rugged circular connector systems, and can also be mixed with power contacts. Pin and socket terminal ball lenses expand and calibrate optical signals to beam sizes far beyond their original size, thus providing easier optical alignment, low pollution sensitivity, and consistent performance under thermal changes.

     The beam passes through the air gap from the transmission side and is then focused back to the core of the receiving fiber. As air pollution particles of the same size affect the performance of the PC connection, the beam area between the lenses expands by about 150 times with limited signal deterioration. The terminal face is easy to clean.
