The first automotive-grade safety certifier that effectively enhances vehicle safety

     Maxim Integrated announced the launch of the DS28C40 DeepCover Automotive-grade Security Certifier to help designers enhance security, confidentiality and data integrity in connected vehicles. As the industry's first and only AEC-Q100 compliant Level 1 automotive system solution, the safety certification IC reduces design complexity and software safety hazards in current solutions, ensuring that electronic systems, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and electric vehicle (EV) batteries, use authentic components.

     As cars become more complex, so do safety risks. Car manufacturers ensure that only OEM-certified parts are securely connected to vehicle systems and protected from the increasing prevalence of malware. Powerful security microcontrollers are generally relatively large in size and require software development teams to build systems and rigorously test and debug code. The larger the codebase, the higher the risk of system vulnerabilities or malware causing damage.

     The DS28C40 DeepCover Security Certificator is the only AEC-Q100 compliant security certificator with Level 1 performance that replaces microcontroller-based approaches while reducing system design complexity and associated code development effort. Security authenticators protect expensive accessories such as headlight modules from theft. The device also provides public/private key asymmetric ECDSA (ECC-P256 curve) encryption and other key security authentication algorithms built into the IC, eliminating the need for Oems to develop dedicated device-level codes.

     Security Authentication IC embedded algorithms and other algorithms provide the strongest protection against unauthorized component intrusion, effectively protecting system performance, security, and data integrity. The DS28C40 comes in a small, 4mm-x-3mm TDFN package and operates in the -40°C to +125°C temperature range.
