
FLIR Systems announced the launch of the company's first uncooled thermal imager for detecting methane, the FLIR GF77 Gas Find IR. This handheld thermal imager provides the required functionality to enable inspection professionals to detect potentially dangerous invisible methane leaks at natural gas power plants, renewable energy production facilities, factories and other locations in the gas supply chain. The GF77 can detect methane gas at about half the price of a refrigerated gas detection thermal imager, helping the oil and gas industry reduce emissions and ensure a safer working environment.
Based on the award-winning FLIR T Series thermal camera platform design, but lighter in weight, the GF77 features an ergonomic design with a sharp LCD touch screen and viewfinder, making it easy to use in any lighting conditions. The thermal imager is specifically designed to detect methane to improve gas detection and reduce the possibility of miscalculation. The GF77 also offers FLIR's patented High Sensitivity Mode (HSM), which highlights motion detection capabilities and makes it easier for users to see tiny gas plumes.
FLIR uses the company's latest technology in the GF77's design, including laser-assisted autofocus to help inspectors better locate leak sources and a one-click contrast boost that allows gas to be clearly separated from the background. In addition, users can organize work folders, add notes and GPS location annotations through a responsive graphical user interface to help professionals improve their productivity.
