The industry's first all-sic power module

CREE introduces an all-silicon carbide half-bridge power module, the CAS300M17BM2. The birth of the industry's first all-silicon carbide 1.7kV power module further establishes CREE's leadership position in the field of silicon carbide power module technology. The module not only operates at high frequencies but also has extremely low power consumption, making it ideal for applications such as high-power motor drive switches and grid-connected inverters. At present, Shiqiang has been authorized to agent SiC series products.

     CREE introduces an all-silicon carbide half-bridge power module, the CAS300M17BM2. The birth of the industry's first all-silicon carbide 1.7kV power module further establishes CREE's leadership position in the field of silicon carbide power module technology. The module not only operates at high frequencies but also has extremely low power consumption, making it ideal for applications such as high-power motor drive switches and grid-connected inverters.      The CAS300M17BM2 Silicon carbide power module comes in an industry-standard 62mm housing, making it easy to replace other products of the same type with CREE's C2M™ large area silicon carbide chip technology. The successful application of this technology enables the half-bridge module to have an excellent 8m-ω on-resistance and up to 10 times the switching efficiency of existing silicon power module technology, and has the ability to completely replace existing silicon IGBT modules with a rated current of 400A or higher. The new, performance-breaking 1.7kV all-silicon carbide power module enables engineers to achieve greater system efficiency and reliability while reducing module size and magnetic and cooling component costs.

 

     Extremely low loss is one of the main features of the CAS300M17BM2 module. The reverse recovery current of the diode is zero, and the turn-off trailing current of the MOSFET is also zero. The module is very easy to use in parallel while supporting small lightweight systems. "CERR's 1.7kV all-silicon carbide power module opens the door for silicon carbide devices in the high-power module switchgear market," said Devin Dilley, Director of medium voltage Research and Development at Vacon, a top supplier in the global advanced AC drive market. "The application of this module in the field of silicon carbon-based motor drives can significantly reduce the size of the device and reduce the cost of the filter part by up to 40%, while increasing the overall efficiency of the system," he said.

 

     The extremely high switching efficiency and voltage supply capability of the CAS300M17BM2 allow this module with a simplified two-stage topology to eliminate significant investment in complex multistage silicon-based solutions. At the same time, the two-level topology of the module is also feasible in high frequency environment. This half-bridge module enables higher power density, which further simplifies the system design difficulty of modular products and significantly reduces the average maintenance time of high-availability systems.

 

     The reduction in thermal demand and system cost savings is one of the main selling points of the CAS300M17BM2. Cengiz Balkas, vice president and general manager of Power and RF Devices at CREE, said: "The release of this power module reinforces the company's commitment to fully supporting customer needs and meeting the industry's demand for lower system costs." Cengiz Balkas further noted: "By utilizing the company's latest silicon carbide technology, CREE's power module family offers a more efficient, reliable and attractive price/performance ratio.

 

     The copper substrate and aluminum nitride insulation give the CAS300M17BM2 module better link performance and protection, and it also has overvoltage protection. The module package size is 62mm x 106mm x 30mm. In the use of materials, CAS300M17BM2 meets RoHS standards, effectively ensuring the health and safety of engineers and users. At the same time, the module also complies with the REACh regulation "Registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals" to ensure the safety of users.

 

     CAS300M17BM2 modules are used in a wide range of markets, such as high-frequency resonant converters or inverters in solar and wind power equipment. The module can also be widely used in motor drives. In the application of motor driven solar inverters, unlike existing silicon-based systems, the CREE power module provides a small, lightweight solution that reduces the cost of the product itself and can reduce the overall design cost for the user. UPS (uninterruptible power supply) and SMPS (switching mode power supply) are also used by the CAS300M17BM2 module.
