Flex Power Modules introduces the industry's first DC-DC converter in 1/16 brick form factor, the PKU4217D, which delivers up to 260W of output power at 10.4V. This means that it is the smallest converter on the global market that can provide this level of power.

     Flex Power Modules introduces the industry's first DC-DC converter in 1/16 brick form factor, the PKU4217D, which delivers up to 260W of output power at 10.4V. This means that it is the smallest converter on the global market that can provide this level of power.

 

     The PKU4217D is an isolated intermediate bus converter (IBC) for powering point-of-load (PoL) regulators. It delivers market-leading power density in a compact module, ideal for telecommunications and data communications applications that require extremely high power output in a small footprint. For these areas, the PKU4217D can replace existing 1/8 brick converters, saving up to 40% of space.

 

     The new converter has a typical high efficiency of 96.1% (48Vin, half-load). This means that it saves energy and reduces cooling requirements, thereby reducing TCO. It is the industry's first converter to use HRR technology in a 1/16 brick module, increasing output power by approximately 60W and improving efficiency compared to 1/8 brick modules without HRR.

 

     Olle Hellgren, Director of Product Management and Business Development for Flex Power Modules, said: "The new PKU4217D uses proven technology based on the Flex power module patent to truly be at the forefront of power density in telecommunications and data communication applications - thus saving valuable space without compromising efficiency. At present, there is a trend in the industry to use 10.4V instead of 12V for PoL power supply to further improve efficiency; We believe this new module will help more customers follow this trend."

 

     The module has an input voltage range of 36V to 60V and provides 2250V isolation for Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. Output power up to 260W (25A) at an output voltage of 10.4V.

 

     The PKU4217D comes in the industry standard 1/16 brick ultra-thin form factor of 33.02 x 22.86 x 11.30mm (1.3 x 0.9 x 0.44in). It can be shipped with an optional backboard or in a Surface Mount Device (SMD) version. The module meets the safety requirements of IEC/EN/UL 62368-1.
