The latest linear current lead driver AL5887

     Diodes Incorporated released the latest linear current LED driver, Diodes AL5887. The device has 36 independent programmable channels, which can drive up to 12 RGB LED modules or 36 monochrome transmitters. It provides an internal 12-bit PWM color and 6-bit analog brightness control, which can be accessed through SPI or I2C interface. There are three programmable libraries for software control of each color, making it easier to program and set RGB lighting module mode. There is an independent color mixing and brightness register for each channel to allow better color mixing scheme.

     This product provides a simple way to drive many leds, allowing complex color mixing and different lighting modes. It integrates I2C and SPI interface options to provide maximum flexibility for system design. The device provides a wide range of colors and dynamic brightness, and can be used in smart appliances, electric vehicle charging stations, Internet of Things information indicators, infotainment displays and computing hardware.

     The dimming function depends on the PWM duty cycle from 3% to 100%. Once the duty cycle is lower than 3%, the internal circuit will convert the output to analog dimming and maintain linearity. By adding PWM and analog dimming function, dimming ratio greater than 100K to 1 can be achieved. The equipment includes advanced diagnosis with fault reporting function.

     Its comprehensive built-in protection function set provides reliable operation and continuous safety - including short circuit and open led protection, as well as over-temperature shutdown. The over-temperature shutdown warning before the event will also lead to early system protection. With two external hardware address pins, up to four devices can be connected in I2C mode. The internal 16MHz oscillator avoids the necessity of external high-precision clock and reduces the overall BOM cost.
