The new automotive grade IHDM inductor has excellent inductance and saturation stability

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the introduction of A new IHDM automotive side wound through hole inductor, the IHDM-1008BC-3A, rated at up to 150 A for use in engine compartment environments. The Vishay Custom Magnetics IHDM-1008BC-3A uses iron powder core technology for excellent sensing and saturation stability, low power consumption and excellent thermal performance in the harsh operating temperature range from -40 C to +180 C.

     The device's side-wound direct current impedance (DCR) is as low as 0.25 m, minimizing losses and improving rated maximum current performance for increased efficiency. Compared to ferrite based solutions, the IHDM-1008BC-3A offers a 30% increase in rated and saturated current, respectively, at temperatures above +125°C. The inductor has a soft saturation characteristic, so the inductance value after reaching the saturation current is a predictable drop in inductance rather than a sudden drop in inductance value, and the inductance value is not affected by temperature during operation.

     Operating at voltages up to 350 V, the inductors are suitable for DC/DC converters, inverters in high current, high temperature power applications, and for motor and switching noise suppression in hybrid, electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

     The IHDM-1008BC-3A standard striated hot dip tin pins can be used for through hole fixation to reduce the risk of tin whiskers growing, while Vishay can customize inductors with different mounting methods and performance on request. Options include bare copper, surface mount and press fit. Devices comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards and are halogen-free.
