The new programmable clock generator reduces board space

     Renesas Electronics Inc. has released the VersaClock 7 Clock Generator, a family of configurable clock generators with an internal crystal oscillator for high-end computing, wired infrastructure and PCIe and networking applications in data center equipment. Generators offer unmatched flexibility, allowing designers to configure frequency, I/O levels, and GPIO pin features. It sets a new standard in combining low power consumption, cost effectiveness and small package size.

     "Timing requirements vary greatly from application to application and device to device and often change throughout the product design cycle," said Zaher Baidas, vice President, Renesas Timing Products. "The VersaClock 7 provides our customers with the flexibility to configure multiple design parameters while providing the best value for their specific performance requirements. "The high degree of integration and flexibility of programmability helps manufacturers reduce the number of components, saving board space and power," says SUSIE Inouye, principal analyst at Databeans Inc., based in Reno, Nevada. In addition, using fewer components reduces the risk of supply chain issues interrupting production." To configure devices, the company offers its new RICBox IC Toolbox for Windows application, which allows users to generate configurations and program devices on an evaluation board.

     RICBox is a newly launched platform that provides customers with state-of-the-art software to evaluate Renesas products. Customers can create custom configuration and programming devices on the evaluation board using Python drivers or Windows GUI. Customers can create optimized configurations for devices by specifying advanced parameters that do not require device expertise.

     RICBox works seamlessly with Renesas' innovation Lab on The Cloud platform. Customers can download their own configuration and use it locally using RICBox. Or they can start with an application and upload its configuration to a Lab in the cloud to analyze performance.
