The new temperature sensor combines high precision with low power consumption

     Ams Semiconductor, the world's leading provider of high-performance sensor solutions, announced the introduction of the AS621x series of temperature sensors for a wide range of applications, including consumer electronics and wearables, health-related monitoring systems and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

     In today's era of the Internet of Things, the new AS621x series of temperature sensors has the unique advantage of making it easier for AMS customers to integrate this small 1.5mm2 wafer-scale chip package (WLCSP) into their designs without worrying about power consumption or space footprint. The product family uses industry-standard serial interfaces, eight optional I²C addresses, and factory-calibrated temperature sensors, making prototyping and design verification unprecedently easy. This combination enables the AS621x series to be used in a wide range of applications, from industrial process control solutions, iot applications (such as cold chain monitoring, medical data acquisition, etc.) to battery-powered mobile electronics and wearables.

"The small size and extremely low power consumption of these sensors enable compact thermal control for easy thermal management."

     The AS621x series of temperature sensors is available in three precision versions, which are more flexible to meet the different needs of customers: the AS6212 accuracy is ±0.2°C; AS6214 accuracy is ±0.4°C; AS6218 has an accuracy of ±0.8°C. This sensor is designed to help customers more easily integrate temperature sensors into their systems. To this end, AMS has reduced the power supply voltage range to 1.71V, while also increasing the number of configurable I2C addresses to eight, which makes it extremely convenient for customers to flexibly and easily monitor up to eight system heat points, especially during prototyping.

     The AS621x is a complete digital temperature detection system with factory calibrated accuracy of +/-0.2°C, so customers can simply solder the sensor solution to the PCB and have the highest level of accuracy in the industry without further calibration work. In addition, the output resolution of the temperature value is also increased to 16 bits, which can be more sensitive to temperature changes.

     The temperature sensor has the same ultra-small size as the previous generation of AMS sensors (AS620x) at 1.5mm x 1mm (in the WLCSP package) and the industry-leading low power consumption, with a typical current of only 6µA at a measurement rate of four samples per second.
