Velodyne Lidar, Inc. announced the NavVis VLX wearable indoor mobile mapping system equipped with Velodyne Lidar sensors that provide high-quality 3D measurement data capture. NavVis VLX is designed to capture reality in complex built environments such as construction sites and multi-storey towers.

     Velodyne Lidar, Inc. announced the NavVis VLX wearable indoor mobile mapping system equipped with Velodyne Lidar sensors that provide high-quality 3D measurement data capture. NavVis VLX is designed to capture reality in complex built environments such as construction sites and multi-storey towers.

 

     Each NavVis VLX system uses two Puck LITE™ sensors to capture point cloud data to create architectural documentation, including floor plans, 3D models, and digital twins. NavVis VLX combines Velodyne image data with NavVis Simultaneous Localization and Map Building (SLAM) technology to deliver measurement-level point clouds via mobile devices. Its compact universal design enables the system to map small, scattered and narrow Spaces, as well as environments with a large number of obstacles and uneven terrain.

 

     NavVis Chief Technology Officer Georg Schroth said: "Velodyne sensors provide real-time 3D data for our mobile mapping systems. This valuable input has been instrumental in developing the industry-leading SLAM algorithms that power our flagship mobile mapping system, NavVis M6. Now, we introduce NavVis VLX, a complementary device that incorporates the same breakthrough SLAM technology in a compact, universal design. "We are excited that Velodyne will be part of our effort to provide laser scanning professionals with fast, efficient building scanning tools that deliver measurement-grade results."

 

     Erich Smidt, Velodyne Lidar's Executive Director for Europe, said: "The NavVis mobile mapping system captures the data needed to actually build documents, such as 3D models and floor plans, as well as the actual digital factory for a company's manufacturing facility.      Velodyne Puck LITE sensors provide high-resolution images for measuring and analyzing indoor and outdoor environments. Puck LITE is designed for applications that require lightweight, compact sensors, providing outstanding resolution and performance for mobile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)/ UAV applications. It provides a full 360-degree panoramic view of the environment as well as real-time 3D data.
