To help the smart industry, ams has launched infrared lasers for industrial lidar applications

     Ams AG, the world's leading optical solutions provider, has further expanded its rich lidar portfolio with the launch of components for industrial applications. LiDAR, which stands for "light detection and ranging," is a key technology for autonomous driving. There are many applications for 3D environment detection outside of the automotive industry. As a leader in the development and production of infrared pulse lasers for liDAR systems, EMmas Osram has introduced the SPL TL90AT03 for applications such as industrial automation, security and hidden traffic monitoring.

     "We have many years of experience in infrared laser development and have been working closely with leading companies in the field of lidar, allowing us to maintain a leading market position," said Matthias Hoenig, Lidar marketing Manager at Amais Osram. Regardless of the liDAR application in use, the systems typically perform very similar functions. The light source emits infrared light into the environment, and when the light reaches the object, it is reflected by the object and recorded by the detector. The distance or structure of the object can be determined based on the time it takes for light to reach the object and return to the detector.

     Ams SPL TL90AT03 is specially developed for short laser pulses of 5 to 100 nanoseconds. The laser can achieve 65 W optical output through 110 µ m aperture at 20 A forward current, which is equivalent to an excellent efficiency of about 34%. The device adopts TO56 MetalCan advanced packaging technology. Infrared components emit 905nm light of a given wavelength, which is suitable for both lidar applications and various other applications due to their compact size.

     Another advantage of this laser is that its emission width (the area where light leaves the components) is very narrow. It can be used for compact optical devices to reduce the overall size of the system. In addition, the laser also provides other pin configurations, such as SPL UL90AT03.
