Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Corporation announced the introduction of the new MCU Motor Studio Ver.3.0 and Motor Parameter Adjustment Tool to improve motor control functions. The new version of the Motor control software development kit "MCU Motor Studio Ver.3.0" adds a new position estimation control technology for field oriented control (FOC), while "Motor Tuning Studio Ver.1.0" is used for automatic calculation of motor parameters. Two tools are also available.
FOC is an efficient motor control method, but the complexity of adjusting the motor drive using proportional integral (PI) control gain becomes a topic. PI control is usually applied to position control, speed control and current control, and the resulting 3 groups of PI control gain parameters will interfere with each other, and it is not easy to adjust. In addition, the MCU Motor Studio uses known motor parameters for control, but does not have the ability to extract parameters from the motor.
Toshiba's new position estimation control method is based on a flux observer and eliminates the need for PI control for position estimation, making it easier to adjust when evaluating the motor. Compared with traditional position estimation control methods, this new method can achieve higher stability under high load operation. In addition, MCU Motor Studio Ver.3.0 with this new approach also supports traditional position control methods.
We have also newly developed "Motor Tuning Studio Ver.1.0", which is a tool for automatically calculating motor parameters. Through the combination of MCU Motor Studio and MCU Motor Tuning Studio, users can easily get initial motor parameters and start evaluating them.
