Toshiba introduces 5A 2-channel H-bridge motor driver IC for automotive applications

Toshiba Electronic Components & Storage Corporation announced the launch of two DC brush motor driver ics for automotive applications such as electronic throttle valves - "TB9054FTG" and "TB9053FTG". The "TB9054FTG" adopts wettable wing VQFN package, and the "TB9053FTG" adopts power QFN package. Samples of TB9054FTG are now available and mass production is expected to begin in March 2022. Samples of the TB9053FTG will be available from February 2021, with volume production expected to begin in May 2022.

The use of H-bridge motor drives for electronic throttle valves and various automotive valves is increasing, which stimulates the need for system miniaturization and cost reduction. In addition, the second generation of vehicle self-diagnostic equipment requirements (OBDII) will be regulated and implemented in 2022, requiring automotive motor drive ics to have SPI communication functions.

The new IC uses a 5A[1] 2-channel output driver to help reduce the mounting area. In addition, 10A[1] single-channel drives are also available in parallel mode. The two drives can be Daisy chained and also have the ability to control the motor only through SPI communication. Both of these approaches help reduce MCU ports. The new motor drive comes in a small QFN package with a size of 6.0mm×6.0mm, designed to meet the market's proposed system miniaturization needs.

Main features:

● Built-in 2-channel H-bridge drive
The output drive circuit is composed of DMOS FET with low on-resistance, which realizes 5A[1] 2-channel H-bridge drive. A 10A[1] single-channel drive is also available in parallel mode.

●SPI communication
Daisy chain connection and motor control using only SPI communication can reduce the number of MCU ports, which is conducive to system miniaturization.
