Toshiba introduces a new three-phase brushless motor control predrive IC

     Toshiba Electronic Components and Memory Devices Corporation announced the introduction of the new three-phase brushless motor control pre-drive IC "TC78B009FTG". This three-phase brushless motor control pre-drive IC requires no Hall sensor and is suitable for a wide range of applications with high speed fans such as servers, blowers, cordless vacuums, robotic vacuums, etc.

     In recent years, as server capacity and performance have increased, larger and faster fans have been required to ensure that excess heat is removed from the device. Similarly, equipment such as blowers, vacuum cleaners and pumps also need to be used in conjunction with high-speed impellers with high power capacity. Therefore, the fan driver IC needs to drive an external FET to provide higher power.

     The new TC78B009FTG with sensorless control technology drives an external FET. It can control the gate drive current of the FETs and can be used with a variety of different FETs. In addition, closed-loop speed control adjusts and maintains motor speed in the face of dynamic power fluctuations and load changes. The precise setting of the speed is accomplished by the built-in non-volatile memory (NVM), so the TC78B009FTG can achieve closed-loop speed control without the need for an external MCU.
