Toshiba Electronic Components & Storage Corporation announced the introduction of the "TC78B027FTG" three-phase brushless motor control predrive IC, which uses Intelligent Phase Control (InPAC) technology to achieve optimal operating efficiency in a wide range of applications such as high-speed server fans, blowers and pumps. In recent years, the capacity and performance of servers have increased, requiring larger, faster fans to cool the excess heat generated by the equipment.
Similarly, small blowers, vacuum cleaners and pumps also use high speed impellers with higher power. The TC78B027FTG is a brushless motor controller with predrive that can drive a variety of external MOSFETs to meet these challenges.
The TC78B027FTG uses Intelligent Phase control (InPAC) and closed-loop speed control technology. InPAC provides an efficient drive function that helps phase synchronize drive voltage and current to provide maximum actual power to the load. In the absence of some kind of compensation mechanism, this operation is often not possible, and it is usually necessary to define the motor characteristics in advance and adjust the working state in real time in order to achieve the highest efficiency over the entire speed range. However, InPAC provides automation that can be initialized during design, minimizing subsequent tuning and helping to speed up development.
Closed-loop speed control adjusts and maintains motor speed in the face of dynamic power fluctuations and load changes, a valuable feature for mission-critical applications such as server fans and other cooling applications. Toshiba uses built-in non-volatile memory (NVM) to precisely set the speed curve, which eliminates the need for closed-loop speed control with an external MCU when using the TC78B027FTG.
In addition, the TC78B027FTG solution simplifies motor selection. The TC78B027FTG requires only one Hall sensor input and can be used with a single Hall sensor motor or a traditional 3 Hall sensor motor. The IC also uses Hall sensor analog or Hall IC digital signals for rotor position detection, which truly simplifies the user's motor selection task.
