Toshiba introduces low input power and high operating temperature optical relays for smart meters

     Toshiba Electronic Components and Memory Devices has announced the launch of two optical relay devices with off-state output voltages rated at 400V and 600V, "TLP223GA" and "TLP223J". Both devices feature low input current and optimized switching characteristics and come in DIP4 packaging.

     The new product is equipped with a high luminous efficiency LED developed by Toshiba, with a maximum trigger LED current of 2mA. This is about 33% lower than current products and therefore supports lower input power. Characteristics that shorten the switching time (turn-on time, turn-off time) ensure faster operation: 50% for TLP223GA and 75% for TLP223J.

     Its maximum operating temperature rating has been increased from 85 ℃ to 110 ℃, which is suitable for outdoor equipment such as smart meters. The maximum isolation voltage of 5000Vrms enables it to be used in equipment requiring high isolation performance.
