Toshiba introduces new NVMe/PCIe SSD RD500 and RC500 series for 96-layer 3D flash memory

Toshiba Electronics Corporation announced the launch of two new families of NVMe/PCIe 3.0 Gen3x4 M.2 solid state drives (SSDS) : the RD500 and RC500 series. Both product lines feature Toshiba Memory Corporation's most advanced 96-layer TLC(third-level storage unit)BiCS FLASH 3D memory.

Toshiba Memory Corporation's new SSDS offer high-performance solutions aimed at today's mainstream gamers, do-it-yourself installation users and system upgrade solution seekers. The next generation of PCIe interfaces enables the RD500 and RC500 series to provide a faster PC response with lower latency than SATA SSD storage.

The RD500 series is the right choice for computer gamers, and its newly designed 8-channel controller takes full advantage of the potential of BiCS FLASH to deliver best-in-class performance. The RD500 series offers sequential read/write speeds of 3,400MB/s and 3,200MB/s, respectively, and random read/write performance of up to 685,00 IOPS and 625,000 IOPS. The RD500 series has a capacity of up to 2,000 gigabytes (GB)/2 megabytes (TB).

With a 4-channel controller, the RC500 series was developed to deliver faster performance than SATA, making it ideal for users who need a faster solution for mainstream computers. With capacities up to 1,000GB/1TB, the RC500 series of single-sided modules achieves best-in-class random performance.
