Toshiba supports functional safety on-board brushless motor pre drive IC

     Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage has announced that it has begun supplying test samples of TB9083FTG, a pre-drive IC (including brushless motors for electric power steering systems and electrical brakes) for automotive applications.

     TB9083FTG is a 3-phase predrive IC capable of controlling and driving an external N-channel power MOSFET used to drive a 3-phase DC brushless motor. The product supports the ASIL-D functional safety specification and complies with the requirements of the second edition of the ISO 26262 standard, which is suitable for high safety level automotive systems.

      The new IC has a built-in three-channel predrive to control and drive safety relays for motors and power supplies. This helps reduce the number of parts by eliminating the need for external components. compact package (7.0mmI7.0mm (typical value)) with solder flanking construction. Since the need for redundant design limits the board area of the electronic control unit, the use of this small package helps reduce the total mount area.
