Transceivers for remote low power digital voice and data

     CML Microcircuit has announced the availability of the SCT2400 transceiver, which is designed to provide secure digital voice and data communications over long distances (up to 12 km line-of-sight) for systems operating in unlicensed frequency bands.

     The SCT2400 is a highly integrated digital radio transceiver based on spread spectrum modulation in the 2.4GHz band that can be deployed in multiple geographic regions and can support the operation of licensed and unlicensed applications. Coverage of more than 12km (line-of-sight) can be achieved using up to 100mW of output power, consuming only 10mA of current in scan mode, about 52mA of current when receiving speech, and only 64mA of current when transmitting speech. The SCT2400's low power consumption and security features make it an ideal solution for a variety of digital voice and data applications.

     The SCT2400 integrates CML's speech coding technology and advanced forward error correction, which means it enables high definition and high security communication over long distances in low-power radio systems such as dedicated mobile radio (PMR) and Land Mobile Radio (LMR). This enables PMR/LMR to move from different frequency bands in each region to the currently globally recognized license-free operating frequency 2.4GHz ISM band. By adopting the SCT2400 in new product designs, manufacturers can standardize designs on a single platform while meeting market needs in multiple regions, while the support for short data messages will also enhance the capabilities of PMR/LMR and enable it to meet the needs of new markets and applications.

     The SCT2400 can consume up to five times less power than competing products used in PMR, and its low power consumption and small size (10mm x 10mm, 144-BGA package) means it can be used in the design of portable, mobile and wearable products, including fitness trackers, smart clothing and wireless headsets. Powered by a 3V single power supply, the SCT2400 supports digital voice modes, including point-to-point, group calling, and broadcast, and can support short message (SMS) data modes.
