TRINAMIC Motion Control GmbH&Co. KG announced the TMC2590, a two-phase stepper motor gate driver with a rugged design and high power density. Applicable from 5V... Various stepper motors with 60V DC operating voltage. It is an economical solution for a wide range of applications in textile, factory and laboratory automation, 3D printing, liquid handling, medical, security, pumps and valves, and POS devices.
"Stepper gate driver ics enable a powerful, flexible design with a high current distribution that matches perfectly with motors using external MOSFETs. Reducing the required application material and board space by forming an on-chip solution greatly reduces design complexity and development time, "explains Michael Randt, founder and CEO of Trinamic.
With the Step/Dir interface, SPI and standalone operation, the TMC2590 can be used with industry common motion controllers to generate step signals. Microstepping is ensured no matter what motion controller is used, so the TMC2590 uses MicroPlyer: Trinamic uses step pulses of level 1/16 or lower for advanced step pulse interpolators of 1/256 microsteps.
Highly integrated and efficient, the TMC2590 offers industry-leading technologies including StallGuard2™ for sensorless homing and stall detection, CoolStep™ for load dependent current control, up to 75% energy saving, and SpreadCycle™ for highly dynamic positioning. It provides access to a full set of diagnostics through the interface, while the integrated protection can be adjusted to suit different power levels and load conditions. These include short-circuit protection, open-circuit load detection, temperature sensors, and undervoltage detection to improve system reliability.
