U-blox announces new dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and dual-mode Bluetooth 5.3 modules

     A leading global provider of location and wireless communications technologies and services, the u-blox JODY-W5 has announced the launch of a new module specifically tailored for the automotive market. The JODY-W5 module uses dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and dual-mode Bluetooth 5.3 technology (including LE Audio) to effectively prevent congestion in the in-car wireless network and provide better audio capabilities. The JODY-W5 is also cost-effective, compact and supports many different antenna configurations.

     U-blox JODY-W5 supports a variety of application scenarios, such as helmet-to-helmet communication for two-wheeled vehicles, EV charging solutions (such as link/device configuration and data billing via access points), connected vehicle terminals and automotive hosts (such as diagnostics and software updates), and automotive infotainment systems. Includes a rear-seat entertainment module, smartphone network sharing and hands-free calling.

     The JODY-W5 module is available in two variants that support a maximum operating temperature of 85°C and 105°C respectively, meeting the requirements of the Level 2 vehicle regulations. In addition, the module can provide LTE coexistence filters and a variety of different antenna configurations on demand. The JOdY-W5 is pin-compatible with other u-blox JODY modules, making it easy for you to design and upgrade to save design time and costs.

     The module uses NXP EdgeLock Secure Subsystem, built into the NXP AW611, with enhanced security features that support secure boot and OTA firmware updates, key management, and hardware encryption of critical protocol keys. These features can effectively avoid security incidents and significantly reduce implementation effort.
