U-blox introduces short-range communication modules that support dual-band Wi-Fi 6, BLE and Thread

     U-blox has announced the launch of a new short-range communications module, u-blox IRIS-W1. The compact, compact module combines dual-band Wi-Fi 6, BLE (Bluetooth Low Power) 5.3, Thread, and support for Matter. The IRIS-W1 module is available in four models, each of which provides users with a variety of antennas and software environments to choose from.

     The module will provide innovative technical support for market segments such as industrial automation, medical equipment, electric vehicle charging, smart buildings and smart homes (including smart home appliances), rear-loading vehicle networking and industrial power tools. With built-in dual-band Wi-Fi 6, IRIS-W1 can easily meet the demand for next-generation Wi-Fi technology in the above market segments. The industrial market can benefit significantly from this module, such as reducing data congestion and improving power efficiency. The module also supports Matter over Thread, Wi-Fi and Ethernet, which will provide key technology support for two hot market segments, smart buildings and smart homes.

     The u-blox IRIS-W1 module is based on the NXP RW612 chipset, achieving a new technological breakthrough. Wi-Fi 6 reduces power consumption, improves network efficiency, and supports more clients, which could help iot devices achieve significant improvements. Users can also use the module to select Wi-Fi channels in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, thereby improving network availability and throughput, reducing data congestion in dense environments, and reducing network deployment costs. The module is also compatible with battery-powered devices.

     The modules are embedded with a powerful Arm® Cortex®-M33 MCU, thus eliminating the need for an external processing unit, thereby reducing design costs and saving space. With the module equipped with RAM and flash memory, users can fully leverage the processing power of advanced applications. Not only that, but the module also comes with a wealth of peripheral interfaces, giving designers more options for how to connect.

     Using NXP EdgeLock and Arm® TrustZone®, the u-blox IRIS-W1 module enables reliable authentication, confidentiality, and data integrity to ensure that end-product implementation is secure. IRIS-W1 protects sensitive data and prevents unauthorized product access, making it particularly suitable for applications with high security requirements.

     In addition to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the u-blox IRIS-W1 module also supports Thread (and Matter). Combining multiple radio frequencies with a powerful MCU, IRIS-W1 takes advantage of the flexibility of the three-frequency design, making it suitable for a variety of applications. Iris-w1 can effectively reduce radio interference problems for users, streamline bill of materials (BOM), and simplify integrated design.
