
AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer and supplier of advanced electronic components and interconnect, sensor, control and antenna solutions, has released its new UBC 550 series of ultra-wideband capacitors designed to deliver reliable, repeatable performance from 16KHz to 70 + GHz in ultra-wideband microwave and millimeter wave RF applications with stringent operational requirements. The new UBC 550Z, 550U, and 550L series ultra-wideband capacitors feature a robust, compact monolithic surface mount multilayer ceramic construction, made from the highest quality RoHS compliant material, and feature ultra-low insertion loss, excellent return value loss, flat frequency response, and high intercell repeatability. These characteristics make the series ideal for use in DC blocking, coupling, and bypass.
The new UBC 550Z series ultra-wideband capacitors have a direction-insensitive 0201 size of 0.58mm x 0.3mm (±0.03mm) and support an operating frequency of 160KHz and a roll-off of -3dB to 70 + GHz at 25°C with no applied bias and typical insertion loss < 0.4dB. They have a rated minimum capacitance of 10nF and an operating voltage of 6.3VDC from -55°C to + 125°C and 10VDC from -55°C to + 85°C. They also exhibit a capacitance temperature coefficient (TCC) of ± 22% to + 125°C, a TCC of ± 15% to + 85°C, and a minimum insulation resistance of 108Ω or 107Ω direct current voltage (WVDC) operating at + 25°C or + 125°C.
The new UBC 550U series ultra-wideband capacitors have a direction-sensitive 0201 size of 0.86mm x 0.33mm (±0.05mm) and support an operating frequency of 16KHz and a roll-off of -3dB, reaching 70 + GHz at 25°C without applied bias and a typical insertion loss of 0.4dB. They have a capacitance of 100nF and a rated operating voltage of 6.3VDC over a temperature range of -55°C to + 85°C, a TCC of ± 15% over a rated temperature range, a minimum insulation resistance of 1010Ω or 109Ω at + 25°C or + 85°C and a rated voltage.
The new UBC 550L series UWB capacitors have a direction-insensitive 0402 size of 1.016mm x 0.508mm (±0.1mm) and support operating frequencies across 16KHz, rolling down to 70 + GHz at -3°C and not at 25°C. Apply bias, typical insertion loss. 0.5dB. They are rated for 100nF, 16WVDC from -55°C to + 85°C, and 10WVDC from -55°C to + 125°C. They also exhibit ± 15% TCC to + 85°C at 16WVDC and ± 22% TCC to + 125°C at 10WVDC, with a minimum insulation resistance of 108Ω or 107Ω (WVDC) at + 25°C or + 125°C and operating voltage DC.
In addition, all three UBC 550 series (UBC 550Z, 550L and 550U) are rated at 250% WVDC for a duration of up to five seconds, come in a rugged SMT package with standard tin or optional nickel-gold plated terminations, and are packaged in either 500 or 1,000 pieces on a roll-on package. Compatible with high-speed, automated mount manufacturing equipment.
