Upgraded R-78 series switching regulators

     RECOM upgraded the R-78 series switching regulators. The three-terminal switching regulator family has become an efficient alternative TO the three-terminal TO-220 linear regulator, saving board space, energy and cost by eliminating the radiator and its assembly overhead. It was upgraded to the series, denoting R-78Kxx, offering improved specifications.

     Available in versions rated at 0.5A, 1A and 2A, fixed outputs now include 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V and 6.5V, depending on the model, with traditional outputs of 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V and 15V. The input voltage range has been extended to a maximum of 36V and peak efficiency in the range has been increased to 96 per cent, enabling all components to operate in the 90C environment - many components are not derated.

     All family components provide short circuit protection for undervoltage locking and automatic recovery and meet EN 55032 Class B EMC specification with a simple input filter. The 0.5A and 1A rated versions come in a SIP-3 micropackage with a size of 11.5mm x 7.55mm and a height of 10.2mm, while the 2A version comes in a size of 11.5mm x 8.5mm and a height of 17.5mm, also in a SIP-3 arrangement.
