Vishay Introduces Advanced Performance High Reliability Surface Mount Ceramic Safety Capacitors

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc introduces a new line of industry-leading Y1 rated 500 and 1500 VDC surface mount AC line rated ceramic chip safety capacitors, the SMDY1. Vishay BCcomponents SMDY1 series devices are suitable for harsh high humidity environments and feature the industry's highest capacitance of 4.7 nF.

     The capacitors released today are suitable for power supplies, solar inverters, smart meters and LED driver EMI/RFI filter circuits. For these applications, competing products have a maximum capacity of only 1.5nF, a Y1 voltage rating of 300 VAC, and no DC voltage rating. In addition, the SMDY1 series has improved moisture resistance to Class IIB humidity class (meeting IEC60384-14 Annex I requirements) and moisture sensitivity class 2a.

     SMDY1 series capacitors are suitable for surface mount reflow process, reducing production cost. Its height is lower than the plug-in device, and no clearance space is required on the back of the PCB. The devices are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, constructed of copper-plated ceramic sheets, and encapsulated in a flame-retardant epoxy resin with a UL 94 V-0 fire rating.
