Vishay Introduces New Lead (Pb) Termination Coating SMD MLCC for Applications Emphasizing High Reliability

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc introduces a new line of surface mount multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) with lead (Pb) termination coatings for low earth orbit (LEO) satellites and other aerospace, defense and Avionics applications. Its operating temperature is up to +150 °C.

     Vishay Vitramon VJ....32 Lead Coating Series termination coatings have a minimum lead (Pb) content of 4 %. Previously, lead (Pb) termination coatings were used exclusively for expensive high-reliability devices. The MLCC released today provides a cost-effective alternative for aerospace system designers who must prevent tin whiskers but do not need aerospace-grade reliability.

     The VJ....32 lead-coated series capacitors are manufactured using Noble Metal Electrode (NME) technology and wet process, with C0G (NP0) and X7R dielectrics, and are available in 5 package sizes from 0402 to 1210. Capacitance down to 1.0 pF for devices using C0G (NP0) dielectric, temperature coefficient of capacitance (TCC) of 0 ppm/°C ± 30 ppm/°C from –55°C to +125°C, maximum per decade The aging rate is 0 %. The X7R device has a capacitance above 1.0 µF, a TCC of ± 15 % from -55 °C to +125 °C, and a maximum aging rate of 1 % per decade.
