Vishay introduces AEC-Q100 certified ultra-small, highly integrated and highly sensitive ambient light sensors

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced the launch of a new AEC-Q100-certified ambient light sensor, the VEML6031X00, for automotive and consumer electronics applications with very dark photographic lenses and high sensitivity requirements. The Vishay Semiconductors VEML6031X00 integrates a high-sensitivity photodiode, low noise amplifier, 16-bit ADC, and infrared (IR) channel in a small opaque 2.67mm x 2.45mm surface-mount package with a height of just 0.6mm.

     The automobil-grade device unveiled today has spectral sensitivity close to that of the human eye. The sensor detects highly linear behavior from 0 lx to 228 klux -- no correction calculations are required -- with resolution as low as 0.0034 lx/ct, suitable for applications with low-visibility (dark) lens designs. VEML6031X00 infrared channel supports light source detection and sensitivity adjustment, and can compensate for illuminance errors.

     The operating temperature of the device is up to+110 ° C, and it is firmly packaged to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. It can be used for backlight control of the display, information entertainment system, rear-view mirror dimming, interior lighting control system and head up display. The sensor supports the easy to use I2C bus communication interface for these applications and provides an interrupt function.

     The flexible device supports multiple slave addresses applied by multiple sensors, and the optional integration time for fast response is at least 3.125 ms. The sensor has excellent temperature compensation capability, which can maintain stability when the ambient temperature changes. The power consumption is only 0.5 in the off mode μ A (typical value).

     The supply voltage of VEML6031X00 is 2.5 V to 3.6 V, and the I2C bus voltage is 1.7 V to 3.6 V. The device complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards, is halogen-free, and the humidity sensitivity level reaches level 2a of J-STD-020 standard. The storage time in the workshop is four weeks.
