
Vishay introduces new automot-grade power metal plate galvanometers in dimensions 2010 and 2512, rated at 2W and 3W. Designed for galvanometer and pulse applications in power supplies, instruments, amplifiers, dividers, power inverters and battery management circuits, the new WFM resistor allows designers to use a single high-power resistor without having to parallel multiple resistors to create current measurement errors. Thanks to the increased power density, WFM also saves board space, resulting in a smaller, lighter product for the end consumer.
The unique structure of the WFM device improves the thermal management design and uses copper heat sinks to give the 2W and 3W resistors in the 2010 and 2512 package sizes the excellent electrical characteristics of the power metal plate structure. The unique machining technology enables low resistance values from 5 mΩ to 500 mΩ with tolerances as low as ± 1.0%.
The device is suitable for automotive electronic control, brushless DC motor control, battery management for electric and hybrid vehicles, high-power inverter/converter control and large motor drives for industrial applications, power supply for downhole instrumentation, inverter control for consumer appliances and HVAC systems, power management, conversion and safety in servers and other computing applications, among other galvanic and anti-pulse applications.
Low TCR (< 20 ppm/°C) solid metal mangano-copper or nickel-chromium resistance core, inductance value 0.5 nH to 5 nH, thermal EMF less than < 3 µV/°C, operating temperature -65 °C to +170 °C. Devices comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards and are halogen-free.
